2012 Route 66 Road Trip - Day 9

We spent a little extra time rolling out of our Grand Canyon camp location simply because... dang, we're parked in the Grand Canyon! Who wouldn't want to linger a little while, right? :D After my experience shooting star trails the night before, I wanted to shoot some silky water shots that morning before we hit the road.

The road out of the big hole... bye-bye Canyon. This was one of the places that we wished we could have spent more time in, but alas... the Road beckons.

We roll through a few more out-and-back sections of road that morning, seeing what we could see before being forced to return to brief stretches of interstate...

And pop into the little town of Segliman, AZ - home of the Road Kill Cafe (among other things)!

One thing I've learned very quickly so far on this trip... is that there is certainly no shortage of forgotten, weathered, antique vehicles. I love it! I am more intrigued by the old, abandoned, run-down cars and buildings than I am their new and cared-for counterparts. 8)

I also appreciate the creativity in regards to new-er pop culture. :D

Ooh, Aaron... watch your head!

Snow Cap restaurant... unfortunately closed for the season. :(

We headed east out of town on some more unmaintained roads, traveling through Williams, AZ... there we stopped at the Pizza Factory for dinner.

And we stopped for the evening in Flagstaff, AZ. Aaron has some friends from back-in-the-day that moved from his hometown out to Flagstaff. The last time he ran Rt. 66, he managed to meet up and spend time with them... but due to the uncertainty of our travel times, and their busy lives, we couldn't get our schedules to work together. :( So instead, we found a local laundrymat to take care of our clothes, and then hung out at a local sports bar downtown called Altitudes Bar & Grill. This was the first of 3 nights that we spent in the Jeep in single-digit temperatures. While the windows were frosted in the morning, we stayed toasty warm. :D Memory foam FTW!
