Bundle of... stuff.

A little over a week ago, I had the honor to do a newborn photo shoot for the sister-in-law of a friend of mine.  This past Saturday, I dropped off the finished product.  Without any feedback yet, I think it went well.  I have a lot of favorites from the session and it was a great learning experience for me.  I have another friend who is expecting any time now... and have a tentative plan to shoot for her new arrival once he's here.

Meet Wyatt:  :D (my absolute favorite from the photo session)

Tomorrow begins my "on my own" week at Lifetouch.  I'm mostly ready, pretty excited, kinda nervous...all at once.  Gear is loaded in the Jeep.  The only thing that has me hesitant is the paperwork end of things.  We newbies were told that we would have a veteran photographer with us for the first few weeks to show us the ropes on the job... however, with this week being as crazy as it seems to be... there aren't any veterans available, so we're kind of on our own.  Trial by fire.  On the upside, by the end of the week I should be pretty well-versed in all of it that it may not be an issue anymore.  Let's hope.

I haven't taken on any personal photo projects (outside of Lifetouch and paid freelance stuff) lately.  I see others producing and posting some really great stuff, and some not so great stuff... but either way, it makes me wish I had the time or made the time to get out and get creative.  I've been a little down on myself recently... my inner voice tells me that all this photography is a fool's errand and a waste of my time.  But over the weekend I saw some images that I took a little over a year ago... and while they are printed, framed, and on someone's wall because they were viewed as 'good,'  I now see my errors in the way I made those images.  I realize that I am progressing - a lot, actually.  And although I may currently be in a bit of a lull, I'm still learning.  I know a year from now I'll look back at my work from today and see, once again, the things that can be fixed.  Knowing all of this makes me more and more confident about the direction I'm heading.

I saw this tonight, and it sums up everything I need to remember:

Last Week, This Week

One week over and done at Lifetouch - it was training week.  Overall it was a good time.  It didn't feel at all like work... it really compared more to a good college course. Completely educational - I'll definitely use skills learned last week in my photography for years and years to come - regardless of if I stay at Lifetouch for a long period of time or not.  Also, highly entertaining - you can tell my trainer/supervisor knows his stuff and loves to share his wealth of knowledge.  You really can't ask for too much more than that.

Next week... well, one more day of 'real' training tomorrow.  Tuesday thru Friday will be on location with some of the seasoned veterans to both observe and assist with the picture day flow.  To start to get our feet wet a little.  After next week, I'll be issued my own set of equipment and will be responsible for my own portraits.  I'm looking forward to that.

Today I had my first newborn photo shoot, and was honored to meet and work with a 2-week old young man named Wyatt. He was quite the gentleman and charmer.  I look forward to working with the photos this week and producing the best images possible to bring back to the clients.

Here's to a productive work week... but here and away from home!
